Therapy and Telehealth

I was not referred to therapy by a doctor, but I need to talk to someone about how I feel. Is this the appropriate service to contact?

Is therapy provided in person or via video? 

I offer therapy sessions in person at our Hermosa Beach, California, location or via confidential video.

How does video therapy or Telehealth work?  

A calendar invitation with a link for your confidential, HIPAA-protected therapy session is emailed. You only need access to the Internet and a private place to talk. 

How long is a therapy session, and what is the frequency?  

Sessions are 50 minutes and are scheduled weekly or biweekly. You may also change the frequency of your sessions as needed.   

What if I do not live near the Hermosa Beach office? 

I can meet with you via Telehealth (video) anywhere in California.

Cost and Health Insurance  

Do you accept insurance?  

I accept out-of-network PPO plans. In the client-therapist confidential portal, you will add your credit card information. Your credit card will be charged after every session or for no-shows. On a monthly basis, I provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance company for you to receive reimbursement.

What if I only have an HMO? 

I cannot accept HMO plans because I am not a member of that network. Please call the number on the back of your medical card to ask about your mental health benefits and for guidance to find a therapist that accepts your plan.

What other options do I have if I want you as my therapist, but my insurance does not cover your service?  

You may pay with cash, a credit card, or a Health Savings Account (HSA).  

I have a Health Savings Account (HSA). Can I use those funds to pay for therapy?  

Yes. Therapy is considered a qualified HSA service, per IRS Publication 969.

What is the cost of therapy?  

The rate will vary depending on your PPO out-of-network benefits. If paid by cash or credit card, the cost is $160 per session.  

Do you offer a sliding scale?  

I offer sessions on a sliding scale as space becomes available.

Bilingual English/Spanish Therapy

Do you speak English and Spanish fluently? 

Yes, I am fluent in English and Spanish. I have primarily lived in the United States. However, I also lived and studied in Mexico, where I gained valuable cultural competence to better serve clients from América Latina and monolingual Spanish speakers in the United States.  

Can the entire therapy session be in Spanish? 

Yes. I can provide therapy in English, Spanish, or a combination of the two languages with families whose children primarily speak English while the parents primarily speak Spanish. I hold a certification to work with Spanish-speaking clients from Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles.
